And it’s all completed, as of Nov 18, 2016. Enjoy!

New Pipeline Project on Sycamore Loop

North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) has started a new pipeline renovation project along their easement road where our Sycamore Loop branches. Normally, when going north on the trail from Highland Park, the trail forks where it crosses the NTMWD easement road. You can go straight across the road and continue on the west side of the Sycamore Loop, or you can travel east on the road until you reach the entrance to the east side of the Sycamore Loop. For the past many months, we’ve had the west side of the Loop blocked off while a pipeline renovation project was underway. That project has ended and the west side of the loop is now open. However, a new pipeline renovation project has just started and we’ll need to detour around it when the construction activity is present during the next several months.

The following picture shows the trail (in yellow) north from Highland Park, and where the trail forks to make the Sycamore Loop. The light blue box shows the area detailed in the second picture. Click once on the picture for a larger image. Click again to remove the larger image.

There may be several days when the bypass black pipes are being laid across the west and east side entrances (the pipe will be buried directly in front of the two entrances). During those several days, the entire Sycamore Loop will be closed and there will be no access to the Giant Sycamore. We will announce these dates on the TTPA website main page, so please check it before you head out.

During the construction work, which may take two or more months, there will likely be construction activity and large vehicles moving up and down the easement road on weekdays and Saturdays. Please be aware and proceed with caution. DO NOT use the roadway, but stay behind the CAUTION tape and on the shoulder and only cross the roadway directly at the two trail entrances.

Help Guide the Development of Lake Lavon

(Deadline for Comments is April 10,2015)

The US Army Corps of Engineers, who control the land around Lake Lavon and the lake itself, is in the process of updating their Master Plan for Lavon Lake. The Master Plan is a long-term guidance document which will help to guide the development and conservation efforts for the lake and the surrounding property for the next 25 years.

The Corps is soliciting input from the community about their concerns and desires for the Lake to help steer the development of the Master Plan. You can help the Corps and the TTPA by filling in the Comment form and getting the information back to the Corps during the Public Comment period which ends before April 10th.

These comments will become part of the Public Record, and the Corps takes this input very seriously. Help have your voice heard about the development of the lake, the lands, and the trails around Lake Lavon.

How Can You Help?

First and foremost, fill out a comment form and send it in before the deadline. Let the Corps know about your love for the Trinity Trail and Lake Lavon, how you use it for horseback riding and hiking, and how you would like to insure that the Trinity Trail is protected.

Provide feedback via their Comments Form. This form can be emailed or mailed to the address on the form.

In addition, use FaceBook, email, phone, word of mouth, etc. to encourage others who love the Trinity Trail to also provide their feedback.

Here are the details:

A note on parking: Lucas has expanded the park next to City Hall since last year. This has reduced the area available for parking. As a result, we will need to try to park:
  • in a more orderly fashion
  • closer together

We will be coordinating parking to have longer trailers (3+ horse trailers and/or those with large living quarters) to the right as you pull through the gate and smaller 2-horse trailers on the left.

Pull straight down the gravel drive then loop back to the right (or left, as appropriate) and double back to park facing out with truck nose facing the center drive.

Park close enough to maximize parking, but far enough apart so riders can hitch and tack their horses between trailers.

When: Saturday, October 25, 2014
Where: Meet at Lucas City Hall and Pavilion, 665 Country Club Road, Lucas TX – This is the NEW Lucas city hall building. Park in the back (driving to the south side of building). South entrance to City Hall is easiest for trailers.

Welcome Donna Carmickle, TTPA’s New Membership Chair

The TTPA is blessed with wonderful volunteers who devote their time and energy to help maintain our wonderful trail. Without the volunteers there wouldn’t be a trail on which to ride or hike.

In December 2013 Lynda Parker stepped down from Membership Chair. The TTPA would like to thank Lynda Parker for her years of service, and we hope to see her on the trail.

TTPA reached out to Donna Carmickle to fill the position and Donna has agreed. Donna was officially voted into the position at the TTPA Board meeting on Jan 14th.

Donna and her husband Bill are long-time members of the TTPA and Donna has served in various positions on the Board in the past. They are avid trail riders and are active members of the community. The TTPA is excited about the energy Donna brings and her ideas on getting the membership more involved.

Please welcome Donna Carmickle as the new TTPA Membership Chair. The TTPA is lucky to have her.
